Communication for All Kids:
Using an Exchange Communication System in Your Classroom, Second Edition

Communication in All Curriculum Areas:
Embedding an Exchange Communication System in Learning Activities

The Picture Exchange Communication System or PECS was developed in the USA by Lori Frost and Alan Bondy. PECS was designed to teach nonverbal students with autism and
other disabilities how to initiate communication by requesting.

Communication for All Kids

communication1Describes how three Australian special education authors implemented an exchange communication system in their classrooms. The book outlines how these teachers taught their students to make requests using symbolic exchange cards and how to make inexpensive materials - quickly!

As well as providing their personal experiences and case studies, the authors have included photographs of students using an exchange communication system, links to outcomes-based English curriculum, goals for IEPs and a recording sheet for student achievement and portfolios.

This book is useful for any teacher with one or more nonverbal students with autism or an intellectual disability.
