Cash for All Kids: Teaching Fundamental Money and Financial Literacy Skills
The structure reflects the Australian National Financial Literacy Framework (MCEETYA)
The book covers
- Coin, note and price recognition,
- Shopping from the earliest skills of holding a purse or wallet to handling money.
- Practical examples of early enterprise activities
- Sources of income
- Financial responsibility
It is a practical, easy to read resource that includes
- Teaching activities appropriate for students with special needs and regular students
working from pre-school to Year 3 levels
- Task-analysis of skills with reproducible recording sheets and sample worksheets
- A bibliography of children’s books about money
The book has a strong focus on developing functional independence in the community.

Both titles provide:
- Blackline masters for 80 number worksheets;
- Extended practice counting small sets and matching numerals to sets;
- Links to outcomes based mathematics curriculum;
- Goals for Individual Education Plans (IEPs);
- A recording sheet to monitor student achievement in mathematics and
for use in student portfolios.
The worksheets use a simple repetitive format, which once learned, will
provide seatwork that can be started and completed independently by the
student, while the teacher works with another student or group. When the
student has learned the format, the worksheets can be used as work tasks
in a TEACCH program
for students with autism.
There are no written instructions, making the
worksheets suitable for non-readers and students from a non-English
speaking background (NESB). The pictures are line drawings of familiar
objects, animals and shapes appropriate for all ages.
The worksheets can be used with a large range of students:
- Kindergarten and pre-primary students who are developing early
counting skills;
- Primary students with poor counting skills who are at educational
risk;
- Early childhood students for whom English is a second language
(ESL);
- Primary students with mathematics learning difficulties;
- Primary and secondary students with intellectual disabilities or
autism, in special education, integrated or inclusive mainstream
settings.

Addition and Subtraction from 0 to 100
Developed by a special education teacher, this program teaches the
numeral and function keys on a calculator and how to use a calculator for
addition and subtraction with one- and two-digit numbers. The worksheets
can be used with students of all ages who are learning to use a
calculator, including primary and secondary students with intellectual
disabilities or autism, in special education, integrated or inclusive
mainstream settings.
Each lesson includes previously learnt material and new material is
introduced gradually, ensuring student success and motivation. The fully
scripted lessons allow class teachers, relief teachers, teacher
assistants, volunteers, parent helpers and peer tutors to present the
lessons with little or no prior training.
The lesson format is suitable for one-to-one or small group
instruction. The oral presentation means:
- Non-readers and poor readers can participate;
- Students' auditory memory is strengthened;
- Students must apply place value correctly (eg fourteen is keyed in
as 'first the one, then the four', which is not what is heard);
- Students cannot key in a given problem without understanding the
operation to be used, which may happen if students simply copy and key
in the numerals and operation signs written on a worksheet.
The book contains:
- Blackline masters for 80 lessons;
- Baseline tests to identify the entry point for students with
different levels of prior learning;
- Links to outcomes based mathematics curriculum and goals for
Individual Education Plans (IEPs);
- Recording sheets to monitor student achievement in mathematics and
for use in student portfolios.
